University of Thessaly
The University of Thessaly was founded in 1984 and admitted its first students in the academic year 1988-89. With its administrative headquarters in the city of Volos, it has developed throughout the Region of Thessaly and in Central Greece in Volos, Larissa, Lamia, Karditsa and Trikala. The University is organized into 8 faculties, 37 departments and 71 postgraduate study programs. Its mission is to promote knowledge through teaching and research and to contribute to cultural and economic development at local, national and international levels. The University demonstrates a constant interest in high-quality scientific research, considering it as a necessary condition for the production and transmission of new knowledge: it encourages the scientific distinction of the research potential in all fields, rewards high individual and collective performance, and cultivates a favorable climate for research and teaching innovation. The University of Thessaly currently hosts highly competitive research groups active in the fields of Bioinformatics, Medical Informatics, Big Data Analysis, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
"ALEXANDER FLEMING" BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES RESEARCH CENTER
The “Alexander Fleming” Biomedical Sciences Research Center was founded in 1998 and is one of the Research Institutions supervised by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology. The Center focuses on scientific and technological excellence, education and innovation in biomedical sciences, and exhibits top performance, achieving internationally competitive levels of key indicators of academic and research excellence. Over the last ~20 years of operation of the Center, its research teams have substantially contributed to the achievement of the following key performance indicators of the Center, which include, among others, more than 190 publications (2017-2022) in reputable scientific journals. The Fleming currently hosts highly competitive research groups active in functional genomics and proteomics, molecular and cellular immunology, bioinformatics, the development of animal models of human diseases, the study of transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms of gene regulation, epigenetics, and mechanisms of learning and memory. The Center is internationally recognized for its research in the field of translational research and the discovery of signaling pathways, biomarkers and targets, the preclinical evaluation of drugs in animal models, and the discovery of new therapeutic approaches.
University of Patras
The University of Patras is a nationally and internationally distinguished and renowned Higher Education Institution, thanks to its diverse and innovative activity in the fields of sciences, engineering and health sciences, as well as the humanities, social and economic sciences.
The University of Patras develops actions and initiatives to achieve pioneering and innovative research through the creation of an appropriate research environment, the promotion of excellence and the transformation of research achievements into measurable impact on society and the economy. The Institute of Precision Medicine of the University of Patras was established in 2019 within the framework of the University Research Center of the University of Patras and aims to develop and implement interdisciplinary approaches to understand the pathogenesis of diseases at the molecular level and how to treat them individually, with the participation of faculty members from different Departments and Schools of the University of Patras.
Hellenic Pasteur Institute
Το Ελληνικό Ινστιτούτο Παστέρ (ΕΙΠ), έτος ίδρυσης 1919, είναι το πρώτο Ινστιτούτο Βιοϊατρικής Έρευνας και Δημόσιας Υγείας που ιδρύθηκε στην Ελλάδα. Tο Ελληνικό Ινστιτούτο Παστέρ (ΕΙΠ) λειτουργεί προς όφελος του δημοσίου συμφέροντος με σκοπό την προαγωγή της έρευνας και της καινοτομίας, καθώς και την υποστήριξη της Δημόσιας Υγείας.Σύμφωνα με τον Οργανισμό Λειτουργίας του ΕΙΠ αποτελεί στόχο του και η ανάπτυξη ιδίας δραστηριότητας ή σε σύμπραξη με άλλους ερευνητικούς ή τεχνολογικους φορείς ή επιχειρήσεις για την εμπορική ή εταιρική εκμετάλευση δικαωμάτων της διανοητικής ιδιοκτησίας και τεχνογνωσίας που προέρχεται από ερευνητικά του αποτελέσματα. Έτσι, τα τελευταία χρόνια υπάρχει ένας αυξανόμενος αριθμός πατεντών και προγραμμάτων έρευνας και ανάπτυξης από ερευνητές του ΕΙΠ σε συνεργασία με τη φαρμακοβιομηχανία για αξιοποίηση ιδίων προϊόντων έρευνας. Επιπλέον, διαγνωστικά προϊόντα έρευνας χρησιμοποιούνται ήδη στο τμήμα Διάγνωσης του ΕΙΠ, ενώ για κάποια από αυτά το ΕΙΠ διαπραγματεύεται με φορείς της βιομηχανίας για περαιτέρω ανάπτυξη ευρύτερης χρήσης τους.
